I am thrilled that my essay, “Hills, Birds, Bones” is appearing in the spring 2025 edition of Colorado Review. In this personal essay, I explore love, loss, and regret through the juxtaposition of the death of my mother in Colorado in 2009 with a myth I was told during anthropology fieldwork in the mountains of Nepal two decades earlier. Though separated by time, cultural and linguistic differences, and thousands of miles, the two events illuminate each other in unexpected ways.
